Our Council

Scouting America is one of the largest Scouting organizations in the United States of America and one of the largest youth organizations in the United States, with more than 2.4 million youth participants and nearly one million adult volunteers. Since its founding in 1910, more than 110 million Americans have been participants in Scouting America programs at some time. Scouting America is part of the international Scout Movement and became a founding member organization of the World Organization of the Scout Movement in 1922.

Locally, more than 2,600 youth participate in Scouting in the 13 counties that make up the Illowa Council. These counties are divided into 5 districts. Each District is served by Council Staff and a volunteer District Committee. Click here to learn more about each district.

The mission of Scouting America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law. We strive each day to bring the best character-building program to young men and women, which will prepare them to be the leaders of tomorrow.
