We Need Instructors
Thank you for considering helping impacting the next generation by serving as an instructor and becoming a Merit Badge Counselor. A Merit Badge Counselor is a volunteer who shares their knowledge, experience, and enthusiasm with Scouts as they explore different subjects through the merit badge program. Counselors serve as guides and mentors, helping Scouts learn new skills, set goals, and complete the requirements for a badge. At Merit Badge University (MBU), counselors play an especially important role—without them, Scouts wouldn’t have the opportunity to discover and grow in so many different areas of interest.
Anyone can serve as a Merit Badge Counselor. You don’t need to be an expert—just willing to share what you know. Most badges are built on skills, hobbies, or careers that you may already have experience with. By volunteering, you’ll not only help Scouts earn badges, but also encourage curiosity, confidence, and character growth.
To learn more about this critical role please check out the Illowa Council’s webpage for getting started as a Merit Badge Counselor. You can also email the MBU Merit Badge Coordinator HERE for more details.
