LOCATION: Howard H. Cherry Scout Reservation – Camp Wakonda
WHO:
To attend a NYLT course, a youth must have the following qualifications at the start of the course:
- Be a registered youth member of a BSA Scouting unit.
- Provide a current BSA Health and Medical Record form parts A, B, and C.
- All Scouts need a unit leader recommendation and the desire to participate in this learning experience.
- Scouts BSA members (male and female) need to:
- be at least 13 years of age and not yet 18 years of age
- completing Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops recommended
- be first class rank or higher
- Venturers and Sea Scouts (male and female) need to:
- be at least 13 years of age and not yet 21 years of age
- completing Introduction to Leadership Skills for Crews (or Ships) recommended
- one year of camping experience recommended
COST: $300 per youth, both in council and out of council!

About this Course
The NYLT course simulates a month in the life of a troop in a six-day course. It reinforces and expands upon Be-Know-Do leadership. Scouts learn a number of leadership skills and concepts. The scouts learn about the stages of team development and how to match the most appropriate leadership style with the developmental stage of the individual or team. The course has many challenges for the scouts, including its culmination where they undergo a quest for the meaning of leadership!
